Professional Career
Mr. Ashley Mudford is the Programme Manager (E-cert) of New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA). His initial involvement with e-certification commenced in 1998 which led to his project managing the development of the New Zealand meat and seafood application. In late 2000 Ashley became responsible for the total New Zealand electronic certification programme for SPS certificates, which included meat and seafood, dairy and phytosanitary products. This responsibility has included managing the relationship with industry sectors, working with international colleagues to gain international acceptance of E-cert, working with the New Zealand Customs Service for the alignment of data standards and internal systems, contributing to the UNCEFACT SPS data standards project, whilst managing the delivery of the E-cert system, application developments and user support services.
During this time he has also presented E-cert at international forums. This included, with his Australian colleagues, the APEC Paperless Trading Symposium in September 2003 and CCFICS (CODEX, which is part of the WTO) in December 2003. He has more recently presented E-Cert at the APEC ebXML Symposium in 2004, and the 7th ICPM (which is part of the WTO) early 2005.
Ashley has a Master of Education degree (with distinction) as well as postgraduate qualifications in management. He has worked in the public and private sector for about 34 years across a variety of industries, including teaching, training, management and organisational development in both information technology and non-information technology. Since 1998 he has been working directly with the New Zealand electronic certification system as well as other SPS certification related IT projects. More recently he has become responsible for information management in the New Zealand Food Safety Authority.
